Working at Hooters

As many of you know, I am the Sales Director of Shop The Gift Basket Store. I am also a Mom. I have three children in college right now, a fact that I am very proud of.

We all know that the economy is bad, and one of the kids (a nursing student at a very, very good college) could not find a summer job. While visiting her sister who is working on her own college campus this summer, she stopped in to visit her sister's roomate who just got a job at Hooters. Curious, she went up to the manager and asked if he was hiring. She spoke to the manager and was able to get hired on the spot.

So, for all the folks who've looked at us with that condescending look, etc., and saying "You're letting your daughter work at Hooters?" I say, yes, yes she is. What's your kid doing this summer?"

I think that the outfit that the girls wear at Hooters is less revealing than the outfits that I see most girls on college campuses wear. And I should know. With three kids in college, I have access to their facebook, and I've seen thousands of pictures of keg parties, basement parties, kids doing keg stands, all the kissy face nonsense, etc, and the Hooters girls defintely are covered up more than most college freshman or sophmore girls.

So, to those people who are frowning at any Hooters girl right now, I'd like to ask if you've seen your own kids' pictures on Facebook. Do YOU really know what you're kids do on Thirsty Thursdays, etc?

This is taken from the Hooter's website:

The element of female sex appeal is prevalent in the restaurants, and the company believes the Hooters Girl is as socially acceptable as a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader, Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, or a Radio City Rockette. The Hooters system employs over 25,000 people - over 15,000 of which are Hooters Girls. The "nearly world famous" Hooters Girls are the cornerstone of the Hooters concept, and as part of their job, these all-American cheerleaders make promotional and charitable appearances in their respective communities. Hooters hires women who best fit the image of a Hooters Girl to work in this capacity. The chain hires both males and females to work in management and host, staff, service bar, and kitchen positions. The Hooters Girl uniform consists of orange shorts and a white tank top, short-sleeve or long-sleeve T-shirt. Pantyhose and bras are required.
